Holidays are coming up - make sure you enjoy them!
So many business owner have trouble shutting off including yours truly. But it has to be done and you have to take care of yourself.
Keep your customers aware of extended leave with a short note before hand. I like to say something like "I know you'll be enjoying this time with your family too, but I just wanted to let you know we will have limited availability over the holiday season." In your signature or a mass email, say something, 2 to 4 weeks prior. Set an auto response email and voice mail with options while you are away – alternative supplier, or a staff member whose been given a basic breifing.
Take time off – you need to regenerate. Most of your clients will be fine with it - they are human, they know holidays happen and will appreciate the notice. It’s the no notice sudden dramas that catch up to headaches. Set your away messages one or two days EARLY so any early panics you can field and they feel special for you taking time out of your “holiday” to respond to them plus you will be a little less disturbed while you finish up final tasks. This also forces you to not take on new works right as you walk out the door.
