A business idea can be born one day, and you can be trading the next in today’s ease of setting up logistics. In Australia you really need an ABN at least on the way – but you can get one through ASIC almost immediately for you non-sole traders. With ABN in hand this opens the door to opening a business bank account and ordering very professional looking business cards. You can have all of this reasonably within 48 hours. But just because you could have a skeleton framework of your business setup quickly, should you start advertising?
I say no.
You have one chance to make a first impression and the best first impression, no matter your industry is this: Capable.
Too many times I have clients talk about turning potential jobs away because they 1. Don’t have the infrastructure setup, 2. Haven’t advertised clearly what kinds of jobs they actually want to do. Too many times I have clients missing out on work because 1. Their online presence is incomplete, 2. They have their business halfway built.
Invest in setting things up right. Get assistance, read a book, ask around – are you ready to greet your clients?
